This upmarket guesthouse on the beautiful island of Nosy Komba, just off the north-west coat of Madagascar, equipped with a spacious home consisting of four comfortable bedrooms each with on- suite bathrooms. The price includes accommodation, breakfast and dinner but lunch can be provided depending on what activity you will be doing on the day.
They are eco-friendly as all rooms are provided with electricity from solar power only, which means only electrical-friendly devices are used at the guesthouse such as hot water. During the cyclone season, February to March, they will be closed due to the harsh seasonal storms affecting the Island. They trade with cash only, preferably the local currency or Euro’s and do not accept credit cards. Parents please note that no children under 16 may be booked into a room.
Marcine Cooper is the owner and host at 293 on Komba. Her husband, Ian, built the Guest House in 2011 and it was opened to the public in 2013.
The guided tours and activities such as boat trips, diving or fishing expeditions and nature walks are available for an additional fee and can be organised before arriving on the Island. If you seek a more relaxing activity, then head down to the private massage area where you can book a full body massage for about € 6.00 which is 20 000 Ariary (local currency).
The Island of Nosy Komba is a volcanic island between Nosy Be and the mainland of Madagascar. The pristine beach is located only a few steps away from the lodge and allows for safe swimming and snorkelling on a reef about a hundred metres offshore. Please note that there are no roads on the Island of Nosy Komba so make sure you organise your airport shuttle well in advance. These untouched tropical forests can be explored via hiking routes by arranging with a tour guide for an afternoon excursion.
There is so much more this Island can offer from the picturesque mountain ranges of the island to the nearby village of Ampangorina to spotting the ocean giants while on a whale-watching safari. $ – The Tortoise Room: The Tortoise room has a double bed with an en-suite bathroom, with a separate entrance, overlooking gentle stream.
$$ – The Baobab Room: The Baobab room is located in the main section of the house with twin beds and an en-suite bathroom. It has its own private terrace that overlooks the ocean.
$$$ – The Lemur Room: The Lemur room offers a double bed with a bathroom and a separate entrance. The room opens onto a private patio with a sea view.
$$$$ – The Ylang-Ylang Room: The Honeymoon suite is for a more secluded visit. This room is set apart from the main house and offers privacy and a fantastic ocean view with its own balcony and deck chairs to soak up the sunsets.
All meals are served on the patio of the main house but if you prefer private dining, this can be organised on request. Lunch will be organised on request at cost of € 10.00 per person. Their menu options change daily depending on the availability of local produce and fresh seafood.
If you are keen to explore the town to build up a real appetite, then head to the many restaurants and eateries in the nearby village of Ampangorina which is within a reasonable walking distance from the guesthouse.
Bar la Plage, Maki Lodge, Chez Yolande and Chez Madam Madio are some of the places that offer meals on the beach, including freshly prepared seafood and Zebu with a refreshing Caipirinha’s or the local Three Horses beer.
Visit the Cocoa/Coffee Plantation by travelling on a boat from 293 on Komba to the port of Ankify on the main land, where a taxi will be waiting to transfer you to this plantation. They will organise a guided tour of the cocoa trees, the processing of cocoa, coffee trees, essential oils plant and processing methods. A lunch will be provided and the end of the tour.e extra night free when visiting during May and September.
