Highlights of the trip
Your Dhow adventure starts the minute you book your trip and begins when you land at Nosy Be airport. You will be welcomed with a warm island greeting and travel through the ylang ylang plantations and chaotic Helville town to the port, where it is onto the dhow and off to our 2 private rustic camps, an exploration journey of Madagascar.
From our tented camp set on the edge of the Lokobie Forest Reserve, we explore nearby Nosy Komba, visit its village market and get close to its habituated lemurs. You will have lunch on board and snorkel the Nosy Verona coral reefs. From Lokobie you also have the opportunity to do the jungle walk. Paddle out on the flat ocean and kayak to the nearby islands all at your own pace.
Our Russian Bay camp has 6 bungalows on the hill overlooking this huge bay which is used as a hurricane hole in the cyclone season. It takes about 4 hours by dhow/houseboat to get from Lokobie to Russian Bay so we usually stop over for lunch and snorkelling at Ankazaberavina Reserve, fish around Sugarloaf island and swim ashore to explore Antshoa Island.
Tanikely Marine Reserve
Tanikely Marine Reserve is a premier snorkelling and coral reef area in Nosy Be archipelago. We allow plenty of time to enjoy the colourful coral reef, swim with turtles, crystal clear waters, lemurs on the island and the lighthouse built by Gustav Eiffel. We will end the excursion with lunch on the dhow/houseboat.
