Island activities & things to do in Madagascar

Dive & snorkel Madagascar

Diving and snorkelling 28 degree water, unlimited visibility and pristine tropical reefs make for excellent snorkeling even for beginners. Although there has been some coral bleaching on the reefs in the Indian Ocean, there are marine reserves and islands where one can experience great snorkeling. We recommend you bring your own goggles and snorkels.

Madagascar sport fishing

We have lines out on heavy duty rods to catch the fish we need for dinner. There is plenty of time to do some sport fishing and add to the pot. One can take a kayak out in the early morning or evening and find your own reef or stroll along the beach with a fly rod or light spinning gear. For sport fishing bring your own gear.

Kayak

We do organise multi day sea kayaking trips. However, at our Lokobie and Russian Bay camps we have sea kayaks for general use. There is plenty of time to explore the area around the camps in the early mornings and afternoons.

Shopping in local markets

We spend most of our time at fairly remote islands where there are very few people and shells to collect rather than markets to visit. However, at Nosy Komba there is a vibrant local market and sometimes local crafters bring their goods to our camps so have some money available if you want some locally made curios. We also try make time for a brief stop at the Helville market should you want.

Wildlife in Madagascar

There is plenty of wildlife to see in Madagascar, in particular lemurs. There are also leatherback turtles
